Camp LIGHT was established to provide services for kids with special needs and their families. Our goal is to ensure children with different medical, physical, and mental obstacles can enjoy the excitement of camp, and build lifetime friendships with other children with similar backgrounds. Summer camp is offered at no cost to the families. We also provide a summer camp experience for at risk youth. Children in foster care, homeless shelters, and others who would not normally have an opportunity to attend summer camp due to socio-economic situations will get a chance to go to camp. Camp LIGHT began holding summer day programs in 2014 and has continued to grow. Upon completion of the final building phase, Camp LIGHT will bring an overnight camp experience to over 600 children every year.
During its tour, the Big Idaho Potato Truck Team identifies non-profits in the markets we visit and offer to serve up “A Big Helping”. This means helping raise awareness, funds, food…or all three!
The Big Idaho Potato Truck travels each year on a cross-country journey! It began in 2012 as a one-year campaign to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Idaho Potato Commission. It quickly became apparent that one year wasn’t going to be enough and it was it was literally on the road to becoming a big piece of pop-culture. It travels the country promoting the certified heart-healthy Idaho Potato and is on a mission to help small charities in towns and cities with the A Big Helping program.
Established in 1937, the Idaho Potato Commission (IPC) is a state agency that is responsible for promoting and protecting the famous “Grown in Idaho®” seal, a federally registered trademark that assures consumers they are purchasing genuine, top-quality Idaho® potatoes. Idaho’s ideal growing conditions, including rich, volcanic soil, climate and irrigation differentiate Idaho® potatoes from potatoes grown in other states.
