This week the Tater Team participated in Ag Awareness Week in various locations throughout Kansas! School visits are some of my favorite because it’s so much fun to see the kids reaction when they see our giant spud! This week was extra special because it was Ag Awareness and we were asked to speak about the Idaho® Potato harvest and Idaho agriculture. I think it is so important to inform young generations about agriculture and the process it takes to get Idaho® potatoes from the the farm to the table. We started off at the fair grounds in Abeline, KS on Tuesday morning. In our speech we talked about why potatoes grow so well in Idaho and we discussed harvest logistics. We also made sure emphasize how hard the 700+ farmers work to grow quality potatoes. In addition we talked about the nutrition in potatoes and how they are a perfect addition to a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle.
Following our visit in Abilene we made a stop at an Elementary school in Washington, KS . Then we went to Marysville where we had an “Ag Awareness” community event. There was a DJ, a baked potato bar, and potato crafts for kids. The team had a great time meeting the locals and speaking to the children. The next day we did a school visit in Blue Rapids because of the rain the tater team did a presentation indoors, but we were able to show the students our National commercial and a video for our potato harvest. The students loved learning about harvest and seeing our youtube videos. Spuddy Buddy even made a surprise visit to the school and the students were so excited to meet him! Following our school visit, we made our way over to Minneapolis, KS and presented to students at the fairground. The Tater Team played potato trivia, Spuddy Buddy says (it’s like Simon says), they danced to the “potato chip” song with the students!
After the Ag Awareness visits, the team drove up to Missouri for some retail stops. The team was invited to two Fricks Market locations in Union and Sullivan Missouri over the weekend. There was a good turnout in each of the stores and the team was able to meet the market employees and customers. The team even checked out the Idaho® potato displays in the produce section! Our potatoes are sold in grocery stores across America and it is important for us to make market visits and support the groceries and customers who buy them! In addition, we had a Big Helping Signature board for the Meramec Community Mission, a local pantry and thrift store! They provide locals with about 500 bags of groceries every month! We really love partnering up with hard working volunteers and seeing all that they give to their communities!
The Tater Team had a frytastic week and met some really awesome people. Tomorrow the team is going to celebrate Tater Twin, Kaylee’s, Birthday and then we are going to see the world’s largest ketchup bottle in Collinsville, IL! The tour is coming to a end and the team is cherishing every moment left on the road! Make sure to “ketchup” with the tater team and follow our social medias!
