union station 2

Hope everyone had a fantastic Labor Day weekend! The #bigidahopotato and #spudsquad were in Kansas City, MO this past weekend! We probably had the best parking spot in town right in front of the famous Union Station in downtown! It is a train station and also has some cool museums, a movie theatre, restaurants, and a few shops. It is definitely a top tourist attraction in KC. We checked out some of the exhibits and it was pretty interesting to learn about the train system and how it was used back in the day! They also have a kids museum called Science City which had a special display all about about Stonehenge.

We were invited by Science City to participate in their 5th annual kidFEST on Saturday from 10am-5pm. During the festival, they had different hands-on activities for the kids inside the museum including science activities and workshops. There was also face painting, balloon animal making, planetarium shows, and special guests like Super Grover from Sesame Street. We held Idaho® Potato decorating outside at the truck and it was so popular all day long! Spuddy Buddy made his appearance for an hour and even went inside Union Station to say hello to fans! It was SO fun!

We also gave a “Big Helping” to Science City. We collected signatures from visitors and donated $1 to the museum for every signature we received during kidFEST! We were able to donate $500 thanks to everyone who stopped by!

We kept the truck parked at Union Station for the rest of the long weekend which got a lot of attention because there was Kansas City Irish Festival nearby and a lot of tourists in town for Labor Day! The #taterteam also made some new friends named Jim and Linda. They came by our event on Saturday to see the truck and kindly invited the team to dinner at one of the best BBQ places in KC called Joe’s BBQ (did you really go to KC if you didn’t eat any BBQ?). They also drove us around to show us Westport and the Plaza! You honestly never know who you are going to meet out on the road, and it proved my theory once again that there are nice and kind people everywhere that you go! We loved meeting everyone in KC and I already miss it there!

Our new friend, Jim!

The spud is back to Idaho this next weekend and we couldn’t be more excited to show it off to #spudnation! Until next time!
