This weekend the Tater Team cooked up some fun in Clayton, California at the 2018 BBQ Cook-Off! Clayton is a quaint little town in Northern California and every year they have a barbecue cook- off that attracts people from all over! Barbecue contestants grilled up chicken, ribs, pork shoulder and brisket with unique sauces. There was also a Kansas City Barbecue Society Pro Pit-masters competition where the winner received a cash prize and trophy. In addition, they had a fan favorite competition where the people got to choose their favorite bbq dish!
The town of Clayton was very excited to have the truck at the cook-off and there was a constant flow of people throughout the day. The event coordinator, Rory, had been trying to get our spud to the cook-off for 3 years so he was ecstatic that we were finally able to come! Locals came up to us and thanked us for coming and told us how awesome our truck was! We were even mentioned in the front page of the “Clayton Pioneer” and had a photo of our truck on pg. 7!
The air in Clayton smelled of BBQ sauce and grill smoke which made everyone really hungry! Fans asked us if we were serving up Idaho® potatoes or if we could grill up our 4-ton potato! Luckily there was plenty of food vendors at the event so they didn’t eat our spud. They had lots of vendor stands with delicious BBQ ribs to try! Tater Twin Kaylee tried different ribs and enjoyed judging what flavor she liked the most!
We were also joined by our Tour Director, Laura Martin and her son Bryson who lives near San Fransisco! It’s always so much fun having Laura (AKA Mama bear) at the events because she does such a great job at promoting the truck and she has some killer dance moves! The whole team had such a great time at the cook-off and we met so many nice people. We were impressed by the great vendors and fantastic live music!
The Tater Team is heading back to Boise now and we will be at a local Walmart for an “Idaho Products Event” in Nampa, ID on Saturday! Then we will take a trip to Ogden, UT on Tuesday the 25th for a “Pioneer Day’s Parade!” Following that, we will be attending an event for “The Potato Association of America!”
