All grand adventures come with their challenges and mishaps. Although we aim to have a smooth tour without any problems, it’s the bumps in the road that make the journey memorable. This week we started out with a minor bump or a nail in one of our rear tires which made for an interesting sequence of issues. After we found the nail we had to scramble to get it fixed before the pressure was too low. Luckily we found a truck repair shop relatively close. After our detour, we were behind schedule and feared we wouldn’t make it to Sumpter, SC for our next event. Thankfully we pushed through and made it just in time!
The next morning we head over to the Shaw Air Force Base for a commissary visit. At the air force base, we were warmly welcomed and had a prime view of the planes taking off from the commissary parking lot. It was an honor to greet the brave men and women that serve our country! Spuddy Buddy also made a visit to the base and was able to shop in the commissary. He was very impressed by the quality of the Idaho potatoes at the store!
Our next stop was Myrtle beach, where we were able to enjoy the beach and explore Broadway at the Beach. We also went on a helicopter ride over the Atlantic Ocean and Myrtle Beach!After our mini Myrtle beach vacation, we went up to North Carolina for our next events. Our first event an Easter event at the Durham Rescue Mission which is the oldest and largest long-term homeless shelter in Durham. They have 400 beds and the owner Ernie Mills said that their goal was to “always have one extra bed available.” At the rescue mission, they had various booths set up for their easter event. They handed out free lunch to guests and free clothing, and they had over 1400 easter baskets for the children attending the event. The Easter event brought the community together in such an impactful way and it was a pleasure to join the festivities.
The next day we went over to High Point, NC for the Elijah’s Food Pantry Drive at the Tabernacle Baptist Church. The truck was parked on the hill overlooking a busy road and it brought a lot of attention to the local charity. This really showed me how the truck can bring a BIG HELPING to local charities. It attracted locals from the road to the event and brought the community together! Many attendees donated canned food, and signed our signature board! Overall it was a great success and we had an EGG-cellent Easter weekend!
