Why do Idaho® Potatoes make great golfers?

spudman 2

Idaho® Potatoes make a great chip.. golf chip that is. The #tatertrio brought the spud to the 43rd annual Spudman Open Golf Tournament in Farmington, CT this past week! The tournament is put on by Fresh Point Inc. and is a fundraiser for the Arthritis Foundation Connecticut. We were joined by Seth from the Idaho Potato Commission and Mike who does retail for IPC in the New England region. We parked her right in front of Tunxis Country Club so all of the golfers could get their “Kodak moment” when they arrived. The #tatertriplets greeted them and also passed out Idaho® Potato pins and potato chips from Billy Goat Chip Company!

After a great morning, it was off to play golf.. or attempt! We were on our own team along with a lovely lady named Nancy who ended up being our golf coach! We had a fun afternoon working on our golf swing (mine looks more like Happy Gilmore) and we found out that we actually weren’t too shabby! Melissa the #spudracer was a powerhouse and won the “Women’s Longest Drive” award for hitting her ball the furthest out of any woman at the whole tournament! Get this, she hasn’t even golfed in years!! We think she should join the PGA when she isn’t touring around with the tater. I found out that I am a putting machine (just call me mean on the green) and that Jessica has an awesome medium game. We might just be the perfect golf and tater team out there. Thanks again to Nancy our fellow comrade who showed us the ropes and was patient when we lost one too many balls on the course.

There was a steak dinner after the tournament was over and you could buy raffle tickets to win some cool prizes! All of the proceeds went to the Arthritis Foundation CT and although the #taterteam didn’t win any prizes, we had an outstanding day with folks from the produce industry! Thanks again to Tom with the Spudman Open for having us for our second year at the tournament!

It was off to Idahome after our time in Connecticut! Let me tell you, it’s not a short drive (2,500 miles to be exact). The #bigidahopotato truck and Farmer Mark will be filming a new Idaho® Potato Commercial, and the #taterteam will get some down time at home. It was also National French Fry Day on Saturday July 13th! We posted a video tutorial about how to make french fries with an air fryer in our hotel room. Sometimes you have to get creative when you are on the road! They turned out pretty tasty I must say! Click here to watch the Facebook video. After we have some time off, we will be heading back to the east coast to Torrington, CT and the Poconos for NASCAR! Should be a tater-iffic time! Until next time potato peeps!
